What is actually on this beat
A search for better sleep gets you to hormones inside a paragraph. Then stress, then what you ate, then whether your back hurts, then who you live with, then whether the neighbourhood you live in was built to keep people healthy. The shows collected here all follow that thread, but they follow it very differently. Some are clinical briefings, dense with mechanism and jargon. Others hand the microphone to someone who has lived it. And a few will lead you through a practice you're meant to try later.
Exercise physiology sits next to nutrition, mental health, medicine, menopause, sexual wellbeing and public policy. There's also a large alternative-health strand, where the claims arrive confident and the recovery stories are personal, and both are worth taking in with your guard partly up. No show here has the one answer.
So the page suits a few different moods: wanting language for something you're feeling, wanting to train with more sense, keeping up with what clinical care is actually doing, or thinking about health as something bigger than your own habits. None of it replaces a clinician.
Mental health, mindfulness, and the inner life
The Mental Health hub is the widest door into the category. Some of these shows are confessional, and some put an expert in front of a microphone and get out of the way. The Imperfects takes its time. The hosts disclose plenty about themselves, and the psychology arrives through examples rather than definitions. Shame gets Dr Emily - Tough Love vs Shame. Loneliness gets The Nature of Being Alone. There's jealousy in Dr Emily - You, Me & Jealousy, and ADHD parenting in Janelle Booker & Hamish Blake - The ADHD Playbook for Parents.
Happy Place interviews like a friend rather than a journalist, though the questions land harder than the tone suggests and the mood turns playful without much warning. OCD and meaning come up in My OCD gave me existential dread! Finding meaning in difficult times, with poet & actor Lucas Jones. Adam Kay talks PTSD and stigma in Adam Kay: "I was told to man up!" Coping with PTSD and mental health stigma. Busy brains get Making sense of big feelings and busy brains, with Paul Whitehouse & Dr Mine Conkbayir MBE. Untangle is quieter than any of that, more contemplative, and its feed carries things like Morning Gratitude Meditation. With Patricia Karpas and Quiet Strength and Equanimity: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World. With Margaret Cullen.
Past the obvious names it gets more specific. PSR Podcast pairs trauma-informed language with an openly Christian recovery framework, in episodes titled The Healing Journey of Adult Children After Parental Infidelity and Parenting Through the Mess of Addiction and Betrayal Recovery. The Rich Roll Podcast swings between psychological struggle and bodies pushed very hard, so Lee Sung Jin On Depression, The Beauty of Anger, & The Spirituality Of Netflix’s ‘Beef’ sits in the same feed as How Hellah Sidibe’s 3,350-Day Run Streak Rebuilt His Mind. Ten Percent Happier is the driest of the meditation shows, which is meant as a compliment: see What To Do When Your Mind Won't Quit | Bart van Melik, Five Ways to be Less Distracted | Shaila Catherine, and A Practice for Fidgeters, Restless Minds, and Anyone Who Hates Sitting Still | Meditation with Sebene Selassie.
Training, performance, and durable movement
Fitness hub shows tend to start in one of two places: the programming, or the person the programming made. The Science of Fitness Podcast starts with the programming. It talks the way a coach talks on the gym floor and reaches for exercise science without much ceremony. Its episode list includes S2 EP 19- Exploring CrossFit's Evolution Through Exercise Physiology w/ Matthew Drew, CrossFit Coach and SOF Exercise Physiologist, EP 8 The Solo Series - Your Fitness Longevity Checklist w/ Kieran Maguire, and S2 EP 018 - The differences between Australian and American S&C training w/ Darius Reese, Head of Strength and Conditioning at SOF.
The Rich Roll Podcast does the long-interview version, where the training is hard to separate from the biography. See The Most Decorated Winter Olympian Ever: Johannes Klæbo On Training, Mindset & Reinventing His Sport and What Are You Actually Capable Of? Mark Dowdle On Winning A 306 Mile Backyard Ultra. FoundMyFitness comes at the same material from the mechanism end, in #111 The Optimal Mobility Protocol for a Durable Body | Dr. Kelly Starrett, #108 The Best Type of Exercise for Longevity and #098 How to Train According to the Experts.
Food, recovery, and everyday wellness
Nutrition refuses to stay in its lane here. It bleeds into muscle, sleep, metabolic health, longevity. FoundMyFitness will happily quote numbers at you, as in #104 Dr. Ben Bikman: How To Reverse Insulin Resistance Through Diet, Exercise, & Sleep, #100 The Optimal Creatine Protocol for Strength, Brain, and Longevity | Darren Candow, PhD and #097 The Science of Protein and Its Role in Longevity, Cancer, Aging, and Building Muscle. The Model Health Show is warmer and more guided, and it puts protein, trackers and sleep in one place in The Truth About Wearable Fitness Trackers, Protein Controversy, & the Biggest Sleep Mistakes to Avoid. The Nutrition hub picks up from there.
The wider wellness beat is looser, and loose cuts both ways. The Energy Blueprint Podcast opens on a guest's story and ends up somewhere inside the cell, talking hormones, mitochondria and the nervous system. Its titles include Restoring Gut Health: Science-Based Strategies with Dr. Michael Ruscio, How to Optimize Mitochondria for Longevity & Health and How to Use Essential Oils for Energy, Sleep, and Stress with Dr. Eric Zielinski. Everyday Wellness: Midlife Hormones, Menopause, and Science for Women 35+ brings midlife physiology into that same frame, in Ep. 581 "Hack Your Vagus Nerve” – Simple Daytime Rituals To End 3:00 AM Wake-Ups and BONUS: “Why Am I So Tired?” – How to Restore Your Cellular Energy and Fight Midlife Fatigue with Baran Dilaver | Menopause, Perimenopause & Longevity. Sleep, energy, gut health and daily habits: the Wellness hub is that whole loose conversation.
Medicine, pain, and health at population scale
The Medicine hub is the technical end of the category, and The Peter Attia Drive is where it lives. It sounds like a clinician-scientist reasoning out loud: define the term, then the mechanism, then every condition under which the whole thing might not apply to you. That shows up in #405 ‒ AMA #88: Metabolic liver health: how to assess risk, catch dysfunction early, and prevent or reverse liver disease, #403 ‒ Peptides: separating scientific promise from marketing hype and #399 ‒ The evolution of Alzheimer's disease and dementia care: how early detection, personalized treatment, new therapies, and a multimodal approach are changing the landscape | Gayatri Devi, M.D..
Pain Unfiltered is narrower and pitched at people who do this for a living. The vocabulary assumes you're already in the room, whether the episode is Serving Those Who Served: Advancing Pain Care for Veterans, The Current State of SIJ Fusion or APPs: Collaboration and Role in Interventional Spine.
Pull the camera back and the questions change shape. Public Health Insight takes policy and population-health language and asks what it costs to actually implement any of it, in a loose interview format. Episodes include Turning Data To Action With Community Needs Assessments, Rx Kids: A Cash Prescription for Pregnant Moms & Babies and Flint Is (Re)Writing Its Own Story & You Should Pay Attention. That wider frame, health as data, policy and community, is the Public Health hub.
Women’s health and sexual wellbeing
The Women's Health hub carries a double job: the symptom, and then everything wrapped around it, including the appointments and the job you still have to show up for. Women of a Certain Stage lets guests tell that part first and widens out afterwards, in Brain Fog, Panic Attacks, and Losing Herself at Work. It Was Perimenopause., Perimenopause Misdiagnosed: 2 Years to Get Help (Menopause Coaching Perspective) and Women in Midlife at Work: Menopause Support Strategies That Deliver ROI.
Everyday Wellness leans harder into physiology and health education. Heart disease turns up in Ep. 580 Why Women’s Heart Disease Skyrockets After 40 – The Shocking Truth About Hormones, Toxins & Testing with Dr. Christopher Davis | Menopause & Heart Disease, training in Ep. 582 Most Women Are Training Wrong After 40! – The Shocking Truth About Midlife Fitness, Muscle & Injury with Debra Atkinson Prevention | Menopause & Exercise, hormone timing in Ep. 579: Normal Isn’t Optimal – The Shocking Truth About Progesterone, Brain Health & Hormone Timing with Dr. Felice Gersh | Menopause & HRT. The titles promise a shocking truth three times running, which tells you as much about the format as the physiology does.
Sex needs a different register, and Sexology finds it. Explicit, unsensational, moving between relationship language and clinical terms, as in EP486 - Beyond Impulse: Understanding Out-of-Control Sexual Behaviors, EP482 - Your Sexual Nervous System and Stages of Foreplay and EP477 - How to Have Awkward Conversations About Sex. The Open Nesters puts sex inside later life, trust and relationships that have changed shape, in Midlife Sexuality & Open Relationships (Season 6, Episode 246), Community and Polyamory (Season 6 | Episode 245) and Pleasure Doesn’t Care About Wrinkles (Season 6 | Episode 243). Both continue on the Sexual Health hub.
Alternative frameworks and personal change
The Alternative Health hub runs on personal testimony, functional-health vocabulary and causal claims delivered with more confidence than they've earned. Mind Body Medicine for Self Healers does the gentle version of this, slow interviews with a lot of room in them, in episodes titled How to Recover from a Brain Injury: The Lifestyle-First Approach with Alex Lombardi #169, Healing Isn't What You Think: The Story Your Body Is Responding To #160 and My Journey to Healing Crohn's & Empowering Others to Do the Same with Dane Johnson #154.
The Ben Azadi Show is quicker and far surer of itself. Your Body Isn't Broken — It's Stuck: How To Flush Out Sugar, Escape the Fat Storage Trap, and Finally Lose Belly Fat Overnight With Ben Azadi | #1293 and Why 5 Grams of Creatine Is Failing Your Brain and the Shocking New Research on Higher Doses for Focus, Energy, and Sleep Deprivation With Ben Azadi | #1290 give you the house style in one look: you have been doing it wrong, here is the correction, results overnight. That describes how the show talks, not whether it's right.
Self-improvement here comes through How To Academy Podcast, polished public-intellectual interviews, the kind that let a guest build an argument all the way out before anyone interrupts with a precise question. Marie Kondo - How to Live is the episode to start on. The Self-Improvement hub goes beyond health into habits and direction.
Where to start
- Want mental health talked about rather than explained at you? The Imperfects, Dr Emily - Tough Love vs Shame.
- FoundMyFitness with #111 The Optimal Mobility Protocol for a Durable Body | Dr. Kelly Starrett, if movement is the thing you're actually here for.
- For the technical medical end: The Peter Attia Drive, #403 ‒ Peptides: separating scientific promise from marketing hype.
- Midlife women's health starts well with Women of a Certain Stage and Brain Fog, Panic Attacks, and Losing Herself at Work. It Was Perimenopause.
- And if you're tired of health as a personal project, play Public Health Insight, Turning Data To Action With Community Needs Assessments.

13 shows, described rather than listed
Each has a written blurb stored with the page, with the role its editor gave it on this beat.
A wry, self-aware host brings meditation and contemplative practice into plain, grown-up language. The show is a clean first stop for listeners who want practice without the wellness theater.
Two Australian hosts plus a resident psychologist take the scenic route through anxiety, grief, overwhelm, and parenting. Hard feelings are allowed to stay hard for a while.
A thoughtful health communicator anchors the Nutrition hub with mechanism before takeaway. Episodes range from food and weight loss to bone health, cardiovascular risk, fertility, and sleep.
A warm wellness-evangelist host routes food into metabolism, body composition, and movement. The show bridges Nutrition and Fitness for listeners who want the science in a guided conversation.
A GP-turned-podcaster covers food, immunity, habit change, and dementia prevention in accessible, unhurried conversations. Useful at the overlap of Nutrition, Medicine, and Wellness.
Long, winding interviews about fitness, injury, addiction, and the stories bodies carry. Episodes like the spinal-fusion rebuild and the Moab 240 ultrarunner keep biography attached to the training.
A working ADHD coach leads plain-language interviews on attention, shame, self-talk, and executive function. Useful for listeners who want attention-specific vocabulary, not another general overwhelm conversation.
A long-form interview show pitched at women navigating identity, people-pleasing, ageing, and social pressure. The host's register is warm, candid, and lightly irreverent.
A pastoral host interviews experts in trauma-informed recovery, sexual health, and emotional wholeness from a Christian theological frame. The Sexual Health hub benefits from its distinct register.
A warm, attentive host brings mindfulness teachers and psychologists into accessible conversations about purpose, burnout, and emotional longevity. A low-barrier entry to the Wellness hub.
Close-friend co-hosts move between the absurd and the existential — death, anorexia recovery, rage, and joy — in the same episode. Self-Improvement here means identity and steadiness, not productivity.
A duo of friends shares named frameworks and small tools for ordinary life. Episodes mix domestic anecdotes with tidy takeaways on clutter, worry, and codependency.
A syndicated network feed covering sports medicine, natural healing, and esoteric wellness across distinct programs. Browse with curiosity kept separate from endorsement.
Where to start
5 routes in, one per reader
Start with a skeptical, practiced voice on mindfulness before moving to The Imperfects for longer emotional conversations and Attention Talk Radio for ADHD-specific language.
Evidence-first nutrition with mechanism before takeaway. Compare it with The Model Health Show for a warmer, guided-conversation counterweight.
Fitness episodes with biography still attached — injury, addiction, and meaning alongside training. Follow with The Proof with Simon Hill for the more technical muscle-and-longevity questions.
A GP's voice on meaning, purpose, and habit change. Pair with Happier with Gretchen Rubin for the domestic everyday register and Untangle for mindfulness and emotional wellbeing.
Start with a candid, mid-life women's lens on bodies and social pressure. Then move to The Proof with Simon Hill for fertility and exercise science or The Model Health Show for the hormone-and-chronic-disease angle.

Podcasts addressing fertility, hormones, life stages, and gendered experiences of the body. The hub cuts across Medicine, Fitness, and Sexual Health rather than living in one corner.
