From Daily Digestive Issues to Food Freedom: A Client’s Journey with Holistic Nutrition

·49 min·1 clip
This episode is so special to me because I'm joined by Megan Scott, one of my best human beings I know, and we're discussing her incredible health transformation.
This episode features host Brit, a registered holistic nutritionist, in conversation with her long-term client Megan Scott, an entrepreneur and co-owner of Trimount Construction. They discuss Megan's multi-year journey from chronic digestive problems to achieving food freedom through Brit's holistic nutrition coaching. Megan shares her deeply personal health history, beginning with undiagnosed lactose intolerance as an infant and a childhood diet heavy in processed foods like Kraft Dinner, hot dogs, and daily two-liter bottles of pop. Her digestive anxiety became severe in grade school, causing her to cancel social outings and avoid eating during school days or long work shifts at KFC, even leading to fainting episodes. In university, while studying applied human nutrition, she received a misdiagnosis of celiac disease on Boxing Day, which was later ruled out, leaving her with an IBS label and no effective guidance. After university, her symptoms worsened with a diet rich in Italian pasta, pizza, and homemade wine, compounded by hormonal issues from a birth control shot before her wedding. Megan tried various approaches, including paleo diets, CrossFit, and working with other nutritionists and trainers, but found their macro-focused or rigid programs unsustainable. She discovered Brit on Instagram during COVID in 2021 and intentionally waited three months before committing to a 12-week program, fearing she would again fail to stick with it. Brit's approach focused on small, manageable changes like introducing fermented foods, increasing vegetable variety, and cultivating mindful eating habits without strict restriction. A pivotal insight was learning to connect physical symptoms, like finger swelling or exhaustion, directly to dietary choices without spiraling into shame. Megan describes how Brit helped her reframe stressful situations, such as a demanding yoga course, by creating a calming morning ritual with a nourishing breakfast and peppermint tea. The most surprising claim is that Megan, after years of severe distress, now experiences regular, healthy bowel movements and rarely has digestive issues outside of extreme stress. A memorable moment is Brit getting goosebumps when Megan reported her improved digestion, highlighting the personal impact of their work. Megan emphasizes that the greatest shift is moving from a mindset of food fear and anxiety to one of intuition and enjoyment, where she now loves cooking and feels free at mealtimes. The tone is warm, conversational, and deeply personal, resembling an intimate chat between friends who share a transformative professional history. Listeners will appreciate the raw, detailed client testimonial and the practical focus on sustainable habit-building over quick fixes. This episode is ideal for anyone struggling with digestive issues, diet burnout, or the cycle of starting and quitting rigid health programs. Individuals seeking a highly technical or scientific deep-dive into gut health might find the narrative style too anecdotal.
