Stop Podcasting Yourself · Graham Clark and Dave Shumka

Episode 928 - The Listeners

December 30, 2025·2 hr 35 min·5 clips
Samuel stumps Graham and Dave with a riddle about what can pass through the green glass door.
The calendar does most of the setup here. Graham and Dave are in that odd pocket between Christmas and New Year's, so the episode has a half-holiday, half-leftovers mood from the jump. Santa has been through. A normal Christmas check-in turns into Batman's head on a platter, Secret Santa with the Joker, and Santa leaving a mess behind. Nobody cleans up the bit. They just keep nudging it along, from globe-order logistics to the theory that some houses have to become bathroom houses. The listener calls give the episode its shape. Christine brings trivia-night energy, with Springfield questions, Christmas-tree details, and enough exact recall for everyone to enjoy being confidently wrong. The fire truck matters, somehow. Her call also gets into the practical comedy of running trivia in person while keeping the online version going for people outside Vancouver. Then the holiday errands arrive. Christmas cards and homemade marshmallows sound cozy until gelatin shows up and Graham's possible marshmallow future gets a little shaky. The goodbye stays loose. They wish Christine Merry Christmas, say they will see her in 2026, and then immediately fuss over who is next on the call sheet. The room notices the caller streak. A run of women callers becomes a quick joke about getting back to their kind of guys. Kurt is waiting in the queue. The later stretch moves through Camille, a mayor, and a story about pulling a gun over a parking space. Politics gets brushed aside, which only makes the riff sharper, because Dave and Graham treat the phrase like permission to make the obvious both-sides joke and move on. The battery gets final say. A low Mac warning becomes the producer, and the show ends with a ridiculous countdown that jumps straight from ten to five. Happy New Year, close enough. The charm is the clutter: listener details, half-remembered trivia, holiday chores, and jokes bumping into each other before anyone can organize them.
