455-Coach Corner: Nervous System Capacity Over Pant Size

March 23, 2026·27 min·35 clips
Stephanie opens with a question. A student in Self-Coaching Lab asks what matters most in women's health, and Stephanie says the answer that came up in the room was strong enough to earn its own episode. The answer is blunt: nervous system capacity matters more than pant size, and she treats that as the biggest blind spot in women's health. The frame stays coaching-based. From there she connects the idea to the work she teaches, where people often reach for the quote right way of eating so they can control their body, but the deeper question is whether they can stay with what is happening inside them. Body image is part of it. She links body image and perfectionism around food to low interoception, saying that weak access to hunger, fullness, and satisfaction sits inside a wider low capacity to sense the inner world. Then she widens the lens. Mental and emotional well-being enter the picture as being overwhelmed by emotion, resistance to learning new tools, exhaustion, very high reactivity, helplessness, and despair, all of which can knock someone off course even when they genuinely want change. She keeps it practical. The people she is describing keep starting and stopping, repeating the same patterns, and saying they do not know why they keep doing the thing, even though the desire to change is real. The body gives clues. In session, she points to visible signs, like a sudden straightening up or a flash of facial reaction when a coaching question lands too close to the truth. Chronic stress sits underneath. She says the pattern often grows out of long stretches where the nervous system has been asked, mostly unconsciously, to deal with a lot for a long period of time. The teaching loops back. Again and again she returns to the same move: name the nervous system problem first, then read food behavior, body image, and health efforts through that lens instead of treating pant size as the real story. The close turns outward. She ends by pointing professionals toward the Coach Corner Vault, her non-diet coaching certification, and her groundwork program for health professionals who want to do their own work and then learn how to coach other people.
