Part VIII: The Exit

June 28, 2021·31 min·2 clips
Quadriga customers demand the RCMP dig up Gerald Cotten's coffin to confirm if he's really dead.
The ending begins with doubt. Quadriga's customers had waited a year after Gerald Cotton's death, and law enforcement's silence had turned suspicion into something harder to ignore. They asked for an exhumation. Through lawyers, affected users asked the RCMP to confirm the body in the coffin and say what killed him. The demand was plain: if Jerry was dead, prove it before spring; if he was not, bring him to justice. Then the accounting hits. The host moves from the coffin theory to the sold houses, frozen cash, and roughly $46 million salvaged. It is nowhere near enough. After accountants and lawyers are paid, customers may get only a small fraction of what they were owed. That dry wording means pennies on the dollar. The loss keeps getting worse. Because crypto prices rose after Cotton's death, cryptocurrency worth a couple hundred million in 2018 could now be worth more than a billion. QCXN pulls it back to people. The anonymous customer turned detective will not give his exact loss, but he describes a six-figure sum, then points to people who had it worse. Some lost entire savings. He says relationships fell apart and people were left with damage no recovered total can really measure. The agencies stay opaque. QCXN says he has communicated with the FBI and the RCMP, with more contact from the FBI and little visible evidence from the RCMP. That is where the story lands: recovered assets, unanswered questions, and victims watching the loss grow with time.

As heard by us

A deadpan fraud story that keeps the money trail and the body question equally in view.

Exit Scam narrows in on the strangest part of a very ordinary fraud: after a year of silence, Quadriga's customers are asking the RCMP to dig up Gerald Cotton and confirm he is really in the coffin.
