The Fight Game Podcast

The Fight Game Podcast is built on a partnership. Garrett Gonzales, who opens every episode as Double G, and John LaRocca work through professional wrestling, mixed martial arts, and boxing with the familiarity of people who have done this for a long time. Wrestling gets the most airtime. The weekly spine is Wednesday night, with AEW and NXT going head to head and the hosts sorting each show into likes and dislikes. That format is more demanding than it sounds. A match that goes too long gets said so. A finish that makes a wrestler look weak gets flagged. When a storyline drops a thread, such as a champion brushing off an attack a week after it happened, the hosts trace the inconsistency rather than let it slide. Booking logic is the recurring standard here, and they are candid when a promotion appears to be throwing ideas out to see what sticks. Big weekends break the routine entirely. WrestleMania week produced multiple episodes, including a roundtable that Gonzales moderated with Paul Fontaine, Andy Marshall, and Jeremy Finestone, all contributors to the wider Fight Game Media network. That conversation ran on match placement, whether a title match should open or close a card, and what the main event slot still means to performers. New Japan coverage is part of the calendar too, with Wrestle Kingdom, tournament runs, and names like Jeff Cobb, Kota Ibushi, and Jay White getting their own segments. The show also makes room for longer, quieter conversations. An interview with author Bill Hanstock turned into a discussion of wrestling journalism itself, and whether a writer covering the business owes its subjects empathy rather than cruelty. A reunion episode with Big D, the host's original podcast partner from the project's earliest days, wandered into pandemic experience, the wait to attend live shows again, and the accidental history of how the website and the show came to exist. The register is conversational and unpolished in the best sense, with tangents, people from the hosts' lives drifting into the story, and shout-outs to regular listeners by name. Nothing is performed for an audience that needs convincing. The hosts assume you already know who the wrestlers are and why the details matter. What holds it together is the volume of viewing behind it, and a willingness to say that a show was disappointing without turning it into a grievance. Every episode ends the same way, with the same sign-off, which after a few hundred episodes functions as its own small ritual.
