Matan: One on One Parsha Podcast is a weekly Jewish text-study series centered on parsha and Haftorah readings. Its conversations move patiently from Hebrew phrases and canonical structure toward questions of holiness, exile, responsibility, mourning, and redemption.

About Matan: One on One Parsha Podcast

Matan: One on One Parsha Podcast is a weekly Jewish learning series built around parsha and Haftorah study. It comes from Matan Women's Institute for Torah Study and is led in recent episodes by Yosefa Fogel-Rubel. The format is conversational, but the center of gravity is always the text. A passage is situated first. Then the questions begin. Recent episodes move through Vayikra, Yechezkel, Malachi, Esther, Yonah, Melachim, and other Tanakhic material with attention to Hebrew terms, literary order, rabbinic interpretation, and theological consequence. The show is not trying to make every reading tidy. It is more interested in what happens when sacrifice is insufficient, when holiness belongs both inside and outside the Mikdash, when impurity marks the borders between body, clothing, house, and community, or when prophecy speaks to a people who have seen destruction. That makes the tone unusually grounded. Episodes can sound pastoral, but they are never merely comforting. They can be scholarly, but they do not retreat into abstraction. The current season repeatedly places the Haftorah beside the parsha, using that pairing to ask what the weekly reading is doing in a larger canon. Vayikra becomes a map of sanctity, responsibility, food, skin, priesthood, atonement, and the possibility of bringing God into ordinary life. Yechezkel becomes a way to think about exile, dry bones, grafting, leadership after collapse, and the hard problem of return. The Purim material reads Esther alongside Yonah, drawing out passivity, fate, reluctance, and the demand to act. The Israel context is present too. War, safe spaces, Yom HaZikaron, Yom HaTzmaut, October 7th, and Shoah comparisons are handled as part of the religious and moral atmosphere in which learning is taking place. The show suits listeners who want Jewish text study that can hold close reading and contemporary grief in the same frame. It rewards patience. The best moments come when a guest offers a counter-reading, a Hebrew phrase shifts the whole problem, or an ancient passage suddenly becomes a way to name responsibility in the present.

Made for: For listeners who want serious parsha and Haftorah learning rooted in Tanakh, Hebrew language, rabbinic interpretation, and contemporary Jewish life. It especially suits those comfortable with theological difficulty, Israel context, and slow, careful conversation.

What sets it apart: The show stands out for the way it lets close textual study and present-tense grief inform each other without collapsing one into the other. It treats parsha, Haftorah, holidays, and national memory as connected layers of one larger religious conversation.
