About Good Christian Fun

Good Christian Fun treats Christian pop culture as a comedy playground, and it does so with more fondness than bite. Kevin and Caroline anchor it. The episode titles list a guest almost every time, so the conversation rarely stays a duo for long. On paper, many installments center on one song and one artist. Titles like 'Rebel - Anne Wilson' and 'Steady On - Point of Grace' spell out that formula plainly. In practice, the song is the destination, not the road. Many episodes start with a spliced audio bit before anyone says hello. One stitches a Point of Grace track together with lines from pop hits, and Kevin has to own the name DJ Studio for his mashup habit. Another plays Patti LaBelle singing the alphabet while a small dog chimes in with what a host decides is an amen. The Christmas edition rebrands itself Good Christmas Fun, and Kevin tries out Tree and Tinsel as the meaning of his middle initial. Tangents are the engine here, not a distraction. 'WOW or NOW-vember Begins (w/ Jessica McKenna)' makes room for a tribute to Diane Keaton, complete with a run through her films. Elsewhere the talk turns to getting into audiobooks through celebrity memoirs, including one so dense that its author is still six years old two hours in. A companion format called Second Service also appears in the feed, and 'SS UNLOCKED: Call Upon Our Name: The 300 Episodes Celebration Service (w/ Jeremy Olson)' takes the charismatic-church tradition of a celebration service and turns it into a call-in telethon for the show itself. The pacing is quick throughout: short questions, instant corrections and bits that snowball before anyone remembers the topic. What a listener gets is less a critique of Christian music than a noisy, affectionate hangout that eventually gets around to the song, with a little mock ceremony.
