About Gamekeeper Podcast
Gamekeeper Podcast is a hunting and outdoor conversation show with a strong sense of place. The table is often set in West Point, Mississippi, and the mood feels more like a camp-house conversation than a formal interview. It begins with jokes, weather, crops, local color, or someone getting teased for being too deep into turkey season. Then the useful stuff slips in. A story about a bird, a deer, a horse camp, or a food plot becomes a lesson about timing, habitat, safety, animal behavior, or the judgment that comes only from repeated days outside. Recent episodes show the series at its most turkey-heavy. The crew talks spring foliage, frosted plants, gobbler decoys, call making, youth hunters, and the kind of season fatigue that makes everybody a little sharper around the edges. The show is comfortable with long memories. Jim Zumbo brings old-school hunting ethics, horseback trips, grizzly encounters, and a view of how trail cameras, drones, and long-range shooting have changed the experience. Deer conversations get equally detailed. Dr. Mark Turner is brought in for deer forages, while another episode turns scrape traps, big antlers, jealousy, and map study into a bigger look at obsession and restraint. There is also room for side roads. Football excitement with Brennan and Mackenzie Thompson sits beside hunting and fishing talk. An elk story involving helicopters, tags, and a shared camp becomes less about spectacle than about the pleasure of being there with other people. The tone is friendly, but it does not sand off the serious parts. Firearms safety, hunting accidents, and ethical choices are treated as matters worth repeating, even if that makes someone sound overly cautious. The result is a show for people who want outdoor talk with dirt on it: practical, funny, occasionally reverent, and grounded in the details hunters notice before anyone else does.
Made for: Gamekeeper Podcast is for hunters and outdoor families who like practical field knowledge delivered through stories instead of tidy lectures. It especially fits listeners interested in turkeys, deer, habitat work, food plots, and hunting culture.
What sets it apart: The show’s strength is its lived-in roundtable feel: banter, teasing, and memory gradually turn into usable lessons about wildlife, safety, habitat, and ethics. It treats hunting as both skill and culture, with room for stories, mistakes, weather, family, and hard-earned restraint.
