The gist

Dinner with Racers turns racing history into table conversation, with Ryan Eversley and Sean Heckman chasing stories from people across motorsport. It is casual and messy in the useful way: jokes first, then the real answer.

About Dinner with Racers

Dinner with Racers is a racing show shaped like a long meal with people who have actually been there. Ryan Eversley and Sean Heckman bring a fast, teasing rhythm to interviews with people from across motorsport who rarely fit into a tidy highlight reel. The show starts loose. It usually stays loose. But the looseness has a purpose, because the joking gives guests room to explain how careers, races, teams, and reputations really get built. A conversation about the Grand Prix of Long Beach becomes a story about a tiny group raising money, working unpaid, and trying to sell a city on a race. A chat with Christian Rasmussen turns into the pressure of asking for support, wiring money at the last second, and choosing the American ladder over a more expected route. With Anthony Lazzaro, the appeal is the folk-hero arc of a driver who worked as a mechanic while chasing major opportunities. With Matt Yocum, the show tracks a long broadcasting career across NASCAR, radio, TV specials, behind-the-scenes shows, and IMSA pit reporting. With Mike Lanigan, sponsorship and team ownership become questions of trust, promises, and what a legacy should mean. The hosts do not treat motorsport as glossy content. They treat it as a web of favors, nerve, odd jobs, family decisions, strange restaurants, hard timing, and stories that improve when the guest is allowed to ramble a little. That makes the show especially good at the parts between the statistics. It notices who raised the money. It asks who took the risk. It laughs at the absurdity, then comes back for the practical answer. The interview style can be blunt and irreverent, with sponsor reads and intros folded into the banter instead of sealed away from it. That rough edge is part of the identity, but the center is affectionate curiosity. Dinner with Racers works because it understands racing as both a sport and a community memory bank. The cars matter. The people explain why.

Made for: Built for racing fans who want the stories behind the paddock, the funding calls, the TV work, the street races, and the careers that almost did not happen. It also suits curious listeners who prefer human stories over technical sermonizing.

What sets it apart: The show turns insider motorsport history into relaxed meal-table conversation, where jokes and detours often lead to sharper context than a formal interview would reach. Its strength is access without stiffness.

Short reviews from the PlayNext desk, based on the episodes we processed.

Ep.324 – RE-HEATED: Jim MichaelianMar 28, 2026

Long Beach's early race history is shaped by fundraising, unpaid work, and hard behind-the-scenes labor.

The episode revisits Jim McCallion, one of the founding fathers of the Grand Prix of Long Beach and the man handling its day-to-day work, and it gives the clearest attention to how the first race was assembled by a very small utilitarian group.

Ep.323 – RE-HEATED: RJ ValentineMar 13, 2026

A candid business conversation that earns its praise through practical detail.

RJ Valentine comes through as a Boston original and a self-made millionaire, and the conversation lands its strongest note when it stays with business decisions, the Massachusetts Business Association, opening stores, marketing, and budgets.

Ep.319 – Christian RasmussenJan 4, 2026

A clear look at Rasmussen's path, where talent, timing, and funding all had to line up.

Christian Rasmussen's conversation presents his career as a place where racing skill and funding stay tightly linked. It touches on the people who saw what he could do, the first no, the later yes, and the same-day wire that sent money to HMD.

Ep.318 – Paul “Ziggy” HarcusJan 4, 2026

A relaxed, human look at one long IndyCar career and the family choices around it.

Dinner with Racers ends its 10th season at Johnny Rockets in Hollywood with Sean Heckman and Ryan Eversley in conversation with Paul "Ziggy" Harkis, now team manager at Andretti Autosport.

Ep.267 – Graham Rahal

An IndyCar dinner chat that moves from Twitter to Fontana to the animated Grinch.

Dinner with Racers settles in with Graham Rahal, one of IndyCar's veterans since 2008, while Sean Heckman and Ryan Eversley keep the road-trip banter moving as they close out a season of recordings.
