Talking Crossovers: Darkseid vs Galactus: The Hunger & Spider-Man/Batman: Disordered Minds (1995)!

·1 hr 4 min·5 clips

Nico and TK debate whether the 1995 Darkseid vs. Galactus crossover is their least favorite or favorite comic they've read yet.

Nico and TK introduce the episode as a Saturday bonus focused on two 1995 crossovers: Darkseid vs. Galactus: The Hunger and Spider-Man/Batman: Disordered Minds. They immediately contrast their opinions on the Darkseid/Galactus book, with TK grading it a D (later amended to C+) and Nico calling it his favorite. The hosts discuss John Byrne's role as writer/artist, noting his visionary but frustrating work and his ability to blend Kirby concepts. They analyze the plot, where Darkseid outsmarts Galactus by knowing Apocalypse is barren, comparing Darkseid to Thanos. The conversation shifts to the Spider-Man/Batman crossover, written by J.M. DeMatteis with art by Mark Bagley. Nico praises it as an 'A' for its perfect Carnage, clever use of a technology chip to manage Joker and Carnage's intensity, and authentic hero interactions. TK agrees, noting DeMatteis's skill despite past disappointments. The hosts contextualize these books within September 1995's comic releases, listing key issues like Green Arrow #100, Uncanny X-Men #324, and multiple Fantastic Four titles. They explore how these crossovers, though not always great, influenced writers and fans, leading to modern multiverse concepts. The episode touches on upcoming crossovers like Deadpool vs. Batman and Rocket Raccoon/Green Lantern, speculating on their potential. Nico reflects on how childhood exposure to Amalgam comics shaped a generation's imagination, fueling current executive decisions. The hosts conclude by emphasizing the transformative power of these stories, regardless of their canonical impact, and tease future episodes on Green Lantern/Fantastic Four and DC vs. Marvel.
