The Trauma You Inflict

April 18, 2024·36 min·3 clips
A dying monster tells Audrey her psychic gift is the only thing keeping trapped spirits from finding peace.
Chris Burnside sets this up as the finale for season one. He says Uncanny Valley will return with whoever survives, then moves through warnings, credits, and a title that does not leave much room for comfort. Audrey is already begging for a way out. The cave is cold, frightening, and full of voices that almost sound helpful, until she recognizes them. Everett turns up dead and strangely calm. He says he died near Audrey's place on the day she moved in, which makes coincidence feel like an accusation. Roxanne appears too. Then Gareth. The cave stops feeling like a hiding place and starts feeling like storage for the dead. Everyone has part of the story. One person says Everett attacked him. Another names Marcus Pinker. Someone else says the thing wore Roxanne's face. The pattern is nasty and simple: whatever is outside can borrow someone familiar, get close, and leave people with no time to understand what happened. Audrey keeps trying to work out the rules. The dead talk about being anchored to a place or object, and the cave seems to answer why they cannot leave. Then the bodies make the answer worse. They may be trapped because what is left of them is trapped too. The horror stays talky in a good way. Shock, confusion, and blunt questions keep cracking the dread without softening it. Cody's name lands hard. The group wonders whether Cody killed almost everyone in town, but another voice pushes back: maybe this was never Cody at all. That doubt is the point. The finale treats ghosts less like answers than witnesses, each holding one ugly piece of the thing that used their faces.
