This short installment of Jonathan Hicks's Grown Folks Talk Bus Series launches a month-long 'Old School' thread. He begins by remembering the rec centers, swimming pools, and after-school programs that shaped his generation, arguing those programs were essential for kids without a father figure at home. He credits his own father with giving him a foundation and notes that his half-sister did not have the same grounding. He then recounts losing a property he owned. He describes warning signs and money changing hands, and his belated realisation that his sister had been hoping he would lose it. The loss took a long time to process. Out of it he drew a new commitment: his next property will be bought in cash so that no one can take it from him. He now understands why his son refuses to let go of a particular car, because that car is his son's foundation. Hicks tells listeners the word for the day is building a deep foundation, which does not require a lot, only consistent effort. He signs off as a.k.a. John Hicks and God's Boy, thanks his audience, and announces that throughout the month he will continue telling old-school stories on the Bus Series.
