Haley shows up in the story like the person who makes the decision real. She asks the question that matters: how bad do you want to do this? That lands harder than the earlier math did. Mike gets the quick exit line, and the crew commits to the plan. The rest of the episode stays in that headspace where a bad idea turns into a good story because everybody keeps rolling with it.
