Merlin exposes a poison plot at Camelot and names Pelennor's lost daughter.

1. The Sleepy Bookshelf chapter centers on King Arthur’s marriage to Guinevere and the founding of the Round Table. 2. Elizabeth, the host and narrator, first recaps Balin, Merlin, the Dolorous Stroke, and the sword that sailed to Camelot. 3. Arthur asks Merlin whether he should take a wife, and Merlin answers that a man of noble nature should not live without one. 4. Arthur names Guinevere, daughter of King Leodegrance of Camelgard, as the woman he loves. 5. Merlin praises Guinevere’s beauty but warns that Arthur’s choice will later bring "misery." 6. King Leodegrance calls Arthur’s proposal the best tidings of his life and sends Guinevere with the round table from King Uther. 7. The journey to Camelot passes through spring weather, water, land, sports, pastimes, minstrels, and stories told beside forest camps. 8. Sir Lancelot appears among the company as a young knight who is praised for strength, grace, hardyhood, and songs. 9. Camelot greets Guinevere with bells, church music, royal robes, and a coronation procession led by archbishops and bishops. 10. The archbishop of Canterbury blesses the knights’ seats, and one chair is marked as "the siege perilous," reserved for a knight chosen by heaven. 11. Arthur knights Gawain and then Tor, after a poor man complains that Tor spends his time on jousts and fighting. 12. Merlin reveals that Tor is really the son of King Pelennor, and Pelennor rejoices to find him knighted by Arthur. 13. Arthur charges the Round Table to avoid outrage, murder, treason, cruelty, and wrongful quarrels. 14. He also orders the knights to give succour to ladies and damsels and to return every Pentecost with an account of their adventures. 15. A white heart, a white hound, and thirty black hounds burst through the feast and split the company into separate quests. 16. Gawain follows the hart, kills Aladin of the Isles, and later refuses mercy after a knight’s lady is struck dead. 17. A court of ladies then judges Gawain and makes him the knight of ladies’ quarrels for the rest of his life. 18. Tor follows the white hound, defeats Abellius, and returns to Camelot where Arthur raises him to earl. 19. Pelennor’s search leads him past a wounded knight, a dead maiden, and a forest conversation about poison headed for Camelot. 20. Elizabeth keeps the reading calm and ceremonial while Arthur, Merlin, Guinevere, Gawain, Tor, and Pelennor carry the action.
