Finance Hacks Won’t Save You, Habits Will

March 12, 2026·2 hr 19 min·5 clips
Dave Ramsey explains why divorce becomes a business transaction and how knowing the facts can relieve financial anxiety.
The first call is heavy. Sarah says she has been married about 13 years, has a four-year-old daughter, and feels pinned down by debt while thinking about leaving. Dave does not soften it. He asks what happened to the marriage, hears the abuse concern, and treats the money problem as part of a bigger exit decision. Then the show snaps into a very different kind of trouble. Another caller has chased fast money, taken massive hits, spent wildly, and gambled past the point where any of it sounds clever. Dave gives him a blunt assignment: leave the Wolf of Wall Street fantasy behind and go all the way to boring, calm, and steady. The caller admits depression, club spending, flights, and huge gambling swings, which keeps the advice from feeling like a lecture. It sounds more like someone trying to pull him back from the edge. Then comes the orchard math. A caller expects another $550,000, with about $120,000 in costs, and wants to wipe out the mortgage fast. Dave checks the deal. If the brother is doing the ground work and the agreement is 50-50, the payoff may be 50-50 too. Across the calls, the point stays plain: name the problem, quit worshiping clever moves, and build a life simple enough to hold.
