A musician describes slitting a stranger's throat to capture his perfect note for her guitar string.
The episode opens with KILL News reporting on leaked audio from the Mojave Logistics corporate retreat, where employees selected by lottery appear to have been subjected to a fatal ritual. The CEO Nathaniel Godwin later releases a statement denying the ritual, claiming a dirty bomb from a left-wing terrorist cell was responsible, but a whistleblower caller named Rowan Tamblyn calls in live to contradict this, describing employees being lined up on their knees with syringes and the CEO undergoing a non-human transformation. A second segment features a music interview with a guitarist who plays a vintage Lake Placid Blue Fender Stratocaster. She describes her path to success and her search for the right guitar sound. She then recounts a 1979 encounter in a Sunset Strip alley where she slit the throat of a young singer to capture his transcendent note in a blood-soaked guitar string, using similar methods on other victims for each string of her guitar. A body horror segment titled The Thing in the Throat of Elliot James describes a growing entity that starts as minor throat discomfort and escalates over months to consuming food, then spoken words, presented as a mock insurance advertisement from the Supernatural Protection Company. A Halloween segment titled The Rookie features a veteran police officer delivering a calm, philosophical monologue to a silent rookie about the hidden rot in small towns and his self-appointed role as a surgical exciser of human cancer — building to the revelation that he committed the murders they are standing next to, and that the rookie must be dealt with as well. A crime vignette set in an afterlife desert gas station features a mob enforcer arriving at a surreal roadside location called Desert Skies and being told by two strange attendants that he is dead, followed by a chase through a herd of giant tarantulas. A closing segment follows a river ranger at the Killarney Bridge who pulls a young boy from the water, only to recognize him as Joseph Tarney, a childhood friend who died jumping the same bridge decades earlier, and receives a final ghostly communication from him.
