Outlawed Feed Drop! Tension of Opposites

September 12, 2025·43 min·3 clips
Waiting in the Southwest Airlines C boarding group, Dr. Villavicencio learned her devoutly anti-abortion mother once walked her friend to get an abortion at 15 and held her hand through it.
Jane Marie opens with housekeeping. Dream listeners can hear the episode without ads through Dream Plus; then she moves straight into Outlawed, the abortion series she has spent the last year making. The second season has just launched, and the show is hosted by two North Carolina doctors who want listeners to have real facts for arguments, emails, and hard conversations. Bev Gray introduces herself without dressing it up. She is an OBGYN and complex family planner, which means early pregnancy care: miscarriage care, abortion care, ectopic pregnancy treatment, contraception for people with complex medical needs, plus general OBGYN and labor and delivery work. Then the clip gets more personal. A speaker works through the strange way sexuality can be everywhere and still unspeakable, visible enough to punish but not honest enough to talk about. That leads back to leaving the Catholic church, church sexual abuse, and the virgin-whore double standard she could no longer square. Her politics did not flip all at once. For several years, abortion simply moved out of the center of her mind after being part of daily pro-life activism. Medical school widened the frame. Meeting her first atheist lands almost like a joke, but it also shows how narrow her old world had been. She remembers holding signs and asking drivers to honk for life, while admitting that even the softer, loving version caused harm. By residency, the issue becomes clinical: a very young patient, an induction abortion for a lethal fetal anomaly, and a supervising attending who refused to be called because he did not do abortions. That moment fixed her attention on providing care. The episode closes with production credits, naming Beverly Gray, Jonas Swartz, Jane Marie, Little Everywhere, the score and artwork contributors, and the Outlawed Substack for more information and eventual listener guides.
