Episode 171 - The Unawakening

·1 hr 8 min·5 clips
Adam B. reveals how a single comment in a freelancer Discord led to a key character's death in the latest Shadowrun plot book.
The episode begins with Mr. Johnson introducing guest Adam B., a Shadowrun podcaster and freelance writer. Adam recounts his involvement in the Shadowrun community, including work on the 2050 book and the Fixer Files collaborative podcast. The discussion delves into the Dissians, beings from a dying metaplane who attempt to harvest Earth's mana, as detailed in plot books like Lethal Harvest and Cutting Black. A key moment involves Adam revealing how he influenced a character death in Lethal Harvest through a Discord comment. The Unawakening event is explored, where magic temporarily turns off, affecting awakened characters like a shifter who reverts to animal form. Mr. Johnson shares his experience running a game during this period, leveling the playing field for all characters. The conversation shifts to broader topics, including solo RPGs such as Ironsworn and Star Trek Adventures Captain's Log, which Adam describes as 'guided fan fiction.' They discuss campaign endings, with Mr. Johnson reflecting on concluding long arcs and Adam talking about wrapping up his Shadowrun Paydata season. Adam promotes his upcoming Shadowrun writing projects, his presence at Gen Con, and other podcasts like Sins and Consequences and The Redacted Reports. The episode concludes with mutual appreciation for their contributions to the Shadowrun community.
