S10 E5: Historias

April 6, 2026·40 min·3 clips
Bar owner Pete says Sebastian's behavior after Jackie vanished felt like he 'just wanted it to be over with' — then asked Pete for a job for his new girlfriend four months later.
The search begins with a cab. In Playa Coco after dark, the host looks for one numbered red taxi known to expats because the driver speaks English. Four years is a long time to ask memory to hold. Still, if Jacqueline used that cab, the timing could matter because the case keeps narrowing around a few hard hours. The store cameras add another snag. Carol says she went more than once around this period and wonders if investigators checked the right day. The file is colder. According to the OIJ, there were no confirmed camera sightings and no credible reports after August 17th. That does not make the confusion disappear. Carol and Keith remember pieces that do not quite line up with what investigators say they could prove. Then there is the blonde woman. If Carol saw the same person reported near the liquor store, the host now says that woman was probably not Jackie. The bar sighting lands differently. Krista describes a message from an unnamed woman who said she met Jacqueline at Claudio Igloria's, a beach watering hole. The details feel sharp, but they are still secondhand. The woman reportedly saw Jacqueline sitting quietly with men who were drinking and laughing around her. One man is named Michael. Jacqueline allegedly said she was Jackie and from Canada before Michael cut in. The hour matters. Krista places it in the afternoon, before Jacqueline went home for supper, which keeps it inside the day's disputed sequence.

As heard by us

A patient search that lets uncertainty do the heavy lifting.

David Ridgen keeps the search for Jacqueline in Costa Rica moving without losing sight of the human details. Cab memories, scattered sightings, and the distance between what witnesses believed and what police could verify give the episode its shape.
