Kingdom Restoration

·54 min·3 clips
Jesus sees the bent-over woman, calls her over, and says, 'Woman, you are freed from your disability.'
The sermon begins with gratitude for a recent Geneva College Choir concert. It then moves into Luke 13:10-21. The preacher presents the passage as a window into the Lord's kingdom. Jesus notices a woman who has been bent over for eighteen years. To many, she would have looked like a sign of God's curse rather than God's blessing. Jesus sees her differently. He calls out to her, speaks freedom over her, and lays his hands on her. She is immediately made straight, and she glorifies God. The sermon lingers on that movement from suffering to worship. It describes the healing as compassionate, and also as a clear sign of Jesus' kingdom message. The point is not only that her body changes. The point is that her eyes are being lifted. The preacher reminds listeners that this healing is still temporary in an earthly sense. Bodies are restored and still later go to the grave. So the deeper aim is future-oriented. Jesus is giving a taste of what life in his kingdom will be like. The message ends by pressing that hope into the listener's week. It asks for trust in God's control. It asks for a life shaped by the coming kingdom. It closes in prayer, asking for hope and steady faith.

As heard by us

A steady sermon on healing that points present mercy toward kingdom restoration.

Kingdom Restoration keeps close to Luke 13, and that focus works. Jesus sees a woman others have long overlooked, heals her, and turns the moment into a clear picture of God’s kingdom restoration.
