Rewind with Karen & Georgia - 87: Hither And Yon

Georgia recommends The Fall Line, a podcast reopening the 1990 Millbrook twins case.
Episode 87 gets a rewind. Karen and Georgia treat Hither and Yawn like an old tape with new margin notes: updates, corrections, and the kind of loose intro that keeps trying to become its own episode. They joke about facts and percentages, then let the bit wobble because exactness is not always the fun part here. Ads crowd the front hall. Disgraceland, Hollywoodland, Dear Movies I Love You, and Girlfriends all move through before the story gets room. Then travel anxiety kicks the door open. The hosts talk about needing Vince in charge, because without him the road machine sounds one wrong turn from collapse. Nick gets sainted, more or less. Their Australian tour manager is brilliant, beloved, punk rock, and supposedly not the expected listener. The anxiety slips backward into 1955, when passenger flight still feels new and everyone sounds primed to panic. Then the airport machine appears. It does not sell cigarettes. It sells life insurance to people waiting to board planes, which is awful and perfectly on theme. Jack puts in a dollar fifty and takes out a policy for his mother before she flies to Alaska. The hosts translate the money: $37,500 then, nearly $350,000 now. Suddenly the tiny ritual feels enormous. The joke darkens without losing its grin. The machine becomes a superstition, something you buy because skipping it seems like asking for trouble. Even as the story turns grim and suspicious, the excerpt stays warm: interruptions, nervous laughter, tour exhaustion, and two friends sketching the same strange scene in real time.
