Missing the Mouse · Jeremy Petticrew and Brad Burleson

468: Li’l Gideon

·36 min·3 clips
Brad reveals a major dump of Disney park opening and closing dates that disrupted their recording schedule.
Dates landed everywhere. The hosts open with a pile of coming and going news, then slide straight into the kind of Tomorrowland sign follow-up that only sounds small if you are not already this far in. Buzz gets picked apart first. Brad had hoped for a cloud-shaped Delta Dream Flight-ish callback, and the new Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin sign does not really give him one. There is still a little hope. Maybe it shows up inside the attraction, maybe it does not, but the new sign area feels smaller and more in line with the other Tomorrowland pieces around it. That is just the warm-up. Then one host gets into the strange rhythm of doing Disney for one day, coming home, working the week, and driving right back toward Orlando after church. The second trip was longer. It tied into his in-laws' timeshare plan, with a stop in Mobile, two driving days, and a stretch of being in Orlando without actually going into the parks. The kids were fine at first. Then Disney was right there, so the obvious question showed up: why are we not going to Disney? So they worked the edges. Kona, fireworks, Disney Springs, Captain Cook's, the monorail, the Skyliner, all the stuff that lets a family circle the parks without crossing the turnstiles. The in-laws had never been. That feels almost impossible, given who they are related to, even by marriage, and the hosts lean into the mock disbelief. The trip turns into a workaround tour. Not quite a park day, not quite not Disney, just the version where transportation and food become attractions because, honestly, they kind of are. Then Gideon's takes over. The argument is not really about cookies. It is about the line, the list, the area, and whether the wait is part of the whole thing. One host knows this sounds absurd. Still, he may like the pomp and circumstance, even while admitting that, yes, it is freaking cookies and there are faster ways to get them. The practical move is beautifully plain: go in the afternoon, accept that one cookie might be gone, and skip the stupid long line.

As heard by us

A relaxed Disney parks hangout with dates, signage, and a cookie debate.

The episode stays in relaxed Disney parks territory, moving between opening and closing dates, a Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin sign update, a return to Orlando, and a very earnest debate about Gideon's cookies.
