Another Year Older - A Funny Story for Kids

September 29, 2025·21 min·1 clip
The bathroom mirror moment that changes everything.
Juliet’s birthday starts with the kind of family routine that already knows how to be embarrassing. Her parents rush through breakfast, add sprinkles to toast, and head off in a hurry. Her aunts and uncles greet her with the same annual comments, only this time the comments feel a little too accurate. Juliet lies in bed and realizes something is wrong: she feels much older than she should. At school, the weirdness keeps spreading. People stare at her white hair, wonder why she is running so slowly in gym, and ask why she is knitting a scarf at recess. Most of the questions land on Nelson instead of Juliet because no one wants to sound rude. The only person who asks Juliet anything useful is asking for help with schoolwork. Juliet answers the way she always does, by protesting the word madam and then softening right away. After school, Nelson finally decides he has solved the mystery. He thinks Juliet must have botched a birthday wish, maybe by wishing for something badly or mixing it up with a wish from last year. Juliet shuts that down fast. She has not even made her wish yet. She keeps insisting that none of this was on purpose, and that her real wish is much simpler: she wants to be old enough for people to stop explaining everything to her. Then the story jumps to Grandma, who is taking being old at her own pace and smiling through the whole thing. Juliet asks if she can use her next wish to become young again. Grandma says no, because she already promised that wish to Nelson. Nelson wants to use it on some toy he may already own. Grandma also reminds everyone of the number one rule of birthday wishes: once you tell someone what you wished for, it will not come true. The ending lands on that silly rule and leaves the whole birthday mess feeling deliberately goofy.

As heard by us
