The Secret World Of Continuing Education Entrepreneurship

·47 min·2 clips
A $300,000 e-learning platform can be replaced with a $60,000 annual setup, according to Kurt.
"The math ain't mathin'." Kurt Von Annen uses that line to explain why continuing education changed how he looks at agency work. Chris sets the table with Lifter LMS users in continuing education, which he says have been some of the strongest success stories across more than a decade. Kurt comes at it from the operator side. After leaving Suzuki and relaunching Manana No Mas, he saw companies spending hundreds of thousands on e-learning platforms while still doing much of the content work themselves. That is where the numbers start to bite. Even with premium hosting and Lifter LMS costs, Kurt sketches a WordPress setup that does not come close to a $400,000 annual platform bill. It also changes how an agency offer sounds. A $60,000 yearly engagement can feel expensive in WordPress circles, but oddly cheap to buyers used to traditional e-learning software. Chris keeps the conversation practical: certificates, SCORM migration, student experience, and a system teams can keep improving instead of working around. WordPress is the hinge. Kurt argues that combining a learning management system with a full content management system gives continuing education teams more room to market, publish, and build new features. He points to LearnUpon, Bridge, and Blackboard as the kinds of systems providers may stay with because they assume SCORM support settles the whole decision. For agencies, that makes continuing education a very different market from the usual WordPress project. Chris closes by noting that Lifter LMS has supported continuing education since its early days in 2013 and is now smoother for that work. The episode stays builder-minded: understand the economics, then help clients move toward a more flexible WordPress-based stack.
