The service begins right in the room. A substitute preacher greets visitors, explains why Pastor Ryan is away, asks for prayer, and lets ordinary church business stay in the frame before he preaches. There is a little joke at the door. Then come announcements about the cantata and the coming Sunday before the sermon gets to its question: why does God give leaders to a local church? The answer is not status. The preacher says pastors and evangelists are there so the church can grow up and become what it ought to be. Verse 12 gets the most attention. Perfecting the saints is explained as mending, repairing, adjusting, and putting something back where it belongs. John Raymond's surgery gives the room a plain picture of realignment, which makes the spiritual point land without much polish. Maturity is not just showing up. The church is called into the work of ministry instead of watching a few people serve from the sidelines. Verse 14 brings the warning: believers who stay childish can be pushed around by doctrine, men, and cunning craftiness. So the sermon turns personal. What work are you avoiding? Where do you still need repair? It stays pastoral, direct, and very local. The closing prayer asks that the church would get involved, do its part, and that anyone lost would come and be saved.
