Ep. #264 - The Journey with Kevin Polky | Introduction to Four Corners Wellness

·14 min·1 clip
Kevin Polke announces the expansion of Four Corners Wellness Center during Mental Health Awareness Month.
Kevin Polke, host of The Journey, opens the episode by framing the show's theme of personal transformation and setbacks. He announces that starting May 1st, he expanded his company Four Corners Wellness Center, originally founded in 2010. Polke traces the concept's origins to his early-1990s addiction work at Oakwood Hospital, where he noticed clients had a common metaphorical hole in their soul they tried to fill with substances or behaviors. He realized recovery needed to work from the inside out, not through external fulfillment. Polke identified four key areas of life: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. He reflects on his personal journey, seeking fulfillment through sports like football and bodybuilding, academic degrees, and relationships, but finding it unsustainable. This imbalance mirrored what he saw in clients. He developed the Four Corners perspective to intentionally exercise all four domains daily. Polke first applied this with alcoholics and addicts in recovery programs. Later, he brought it into school systems working with emotionally disturbed students. In 2001, he opened KP counseling and consulted with a local aerospace company on health and safety using this model. In 2010, he opened a wellness center in Rockford, Illinois, offering counseling, chiropractic, massage, nutrition, and fitness services for four years. In 2014, he transitioned Four Corners into a consulting and coaching business. Recently, after prayer and meditation, he launched Four Corners Wellness Center LTD as a professional service organization. New services include individual and group counseling for addiction and trauma, executive coaching, fitness and nutritional coaching, and grief coaching. The center will also provide leadership development consulting for businesses, supervision for nonprofits, and programs like equine-assisted psychotherapy. Polke mentions working with local artists and musicians to integrate art and music into wellness. He credits Christie for artistic design and personal training services in the same building. The episode concludes with Polke expressing excitement for this new chapter and inviting listeners to follow their own hero's journey.
