454: Rippin' It Open Episode 2 | Is Prizm Football Losing Its Luster?

He says unopened boxes should face more barriers because the resale market captures profit without adding value.
Prism leads the list. Adam starts with hobby boxes sold between March 15th and March 21st, where Panini Prism moves ahead after a long flagship MLB run. That part tracks. The part he keeps pulling on is whether breakers are pushing the price, especially if some are buying direct from Panini or Topps while regular collectors deal with a different market. Topps is still right there. Top Series 1 sits at number two, Topps Chrome Sonic Baseball holds number three, and Donruss Elite Basketball lands at number four. Then the question gets sharper. If Prism is priced closer to national treasures than tops flagship, what should a buyer expect to get back? Blasters feel easier to stomach. Adam is not against a $30 retail box, and he even thinks higher blaster pricing might have helped cards if print runs had not climbed too. That mix is what bothers him. Raising the price and the supply asks collectors to pay more for cards that may feel less scarce. He does not flatten it into one villain. The company wants to make money. Buyers often do too. That puts the hobby in an awkward middle. The $650 box hangs over the whole thing. For a regular Prism hobby buyer, Adam doubts the card value is likely to come close to that number. Retail has a different kind of risk. With a $30 blaster, getting maybe $20 to $25 back feels possible enough that the miss hurts less. Bowman changes the mood near the end. Adam gives Bowman Chrome University real credit because college licenses can create first Bowman Chrome cards for current college players, while Anthony Richardson's one of one eBay sale gives collectors another price point to chew on.
