Giant Bombcast 927: With Protein

February 10, 2026·2 hr 46 min·5 clips
Jan Ochoa and Jeff Grubb start the Bombcast muted, joking that no one can silence Grubb except himself.
Jeff Grubb starts muted. Jan Ochoa barely gets through the Tuesday, February 10, 2026 opening before the show starts chewing on itself. The lineup is smaller this time. With Jeff Bacalar and Dan Reichert out on assignment, Jan, Grubb, and Mike Minotti call themselves the Mistbusters and push ahead. Myst 4 is still stuck in their heads. Mike's bird-boy entrance, the spider-chair callback, and shared puzzle pain turn the cold open into quick group therapy. Then the game talk gets tactical. The cat roguelike works because it lets a character become wildly overpowered for one run, then retire before balance has to clean up the mess. A single cat can become the story, pull off some ridiculous build, and leave the board. The crew also tries to sort out what Dan meant about more systems opening over time. Classes seem likely. The excerpt points to new abilities, possible biomes, and a cat house that can stop being safe. That invasion gives the progression some teeth. Retired cats may return as defenders, which makes the game sound less like a menu and more like a tiny crisis schedule. Even before those surprises, the tactics have bite. Positioning and environmental reactions keep crashing into each other. Tires bounce enemies back. Fire changes the board. Interactions chain into choices, and one bad pair of turns can trash a plan. The ending wanders off in the usual way: uncle ratings, Valentine's Day advice, missing co-hosts, and old Myst bits tumbling into a weirdly affectionate signoff.

As heard by us

A funny, game-literate Bombcast about Myst scars, busted cat tactics, and three hosts keeping the room loose.

Giant Bombcast 927 catches Jan Ochoa, Jeff Grubb, and Mike Minotti in loose trio mode, with Jeff Bacalar and Dan Reichert away and the aftertaste of their Myst puzzle stream still hanging over the room.
