SHOOTING FROM THE HIP : WRESTLING NEWS & RUMORS

·54 min·5 clips

The hosts dive into the 'renaissance era' of wrestling, debating if AEW's rise forced WWE to finally change.

The episode opens with the hosts setting the stage for a casual, shoot-style discussion about current wrestling news and rumors. They immediately highlight the post-WrestleMania 40 landscape, noting new champions like Cody Rhodes and Damian Priest, and the retirement of the Universal Championship title. The central thesis is introduced: wrestling is in a 'renaissance era' with multiple thriving promotions. The hosts argue that AEW's creation was a catalyst, forcing WWE to improve after a period of staleness. They credit AEW with giving opportunities to wrestlers WWE undervalued, specifically naming Jon Moxley, who recently made history by holding both the IWGP and WWE championships. The conversation shifts to the philosophical distinction between a great in-ring 'worker' and a great 'entertainer.' Examples like John Cena, The Rock, Seth Rollins, and Chad Gable are used to illustrate that success requires different skills. The hosts then delve into recent backstage news, revealing that Kenny Omega and CM Punk have privately reconciled after the 'Brawl Out' incident, with Omega claiming he saved Punk's dog. They question the real power of AEW's Executive Vice Presidents. A speculative discussion follows about whether WWE, AEW, and TNA could ever regularly exchange talent, citing existing partnerships like AEW-New Japan but noting WWE's logistical hurdles. The focus returns to WWE's creative revival under Triple H, contrasting his fan-responsive approach with Vince McMahon's past methods. They critique specific booking decisions, like the Jey vs. Jimmy Uso match, but overall praise the improved morale and storytelling. The hosts acknowledge Tony Khan's role in catering to hardcore fans and creating competition, even if AEW sometimes feels 'minor league.' They conclude that this multi-promotion ecosystem benefits wrestlers by increasing their leverage for higher pay, citing Mercedes Moné's rumored record contract as evidence. The episode wraps with a look ahead to upcoming shows.
