Frankenstein vs Bride of Frankenstein

October 21, 2025·1 hr 18 min·7 clips
Diego argues the Bride of Frankenstein has a bigger pop culture footprint than the original 1931 film.
Bride might be the bigger monster. Ashley Victoria Robinson starts with Diego Anthony Nunez asking whether Bride of Frankenstein has become more popular than Frankenstein itself, and Diego lands on yes pretty fast. His reasoning is very Geek History Lesson: plenty of the Frankenstein imagery people remember seems to come from Bride. Ashley gives the franchise a feminist read. GDT's Frankenstein movie adds some charge up front, before the usual lesson shape takes over. Diego gets cast as GHL's Igor, and the show keeps its classroom promise: one character, construct, or monster from popular culture explained in about an hour. The best stretch is about sympathy. Diego and Ashley sit with how the creature meets anger, whipping, and chains before anyone really sees him. That makes his reactions feel less like random violence and more like pain with nowhere to go. Henry and Elizabeth get brushed past because their material feels flatter than the creature's arc. Maria becomes the center. Because she is blind, she treats the creature like a human being before fear gets involved. Ashley loves that scene most, and credits Marilyn Harris for making Maria sweet without making her irritating. The flower-throwing scene still hurts. When Maria touches his face and gets scared, Ashley feels the creature's betrayal even while understanding the fear. The lesson closes with banter, social plugs, Threads enthusiasm, and the professor-dismissal bit.
