San Luis Obispo has another old mystery. Ashley puts it next to the better-known Kristen Smart case, then rewinds sixteen years to two little girls disappearing from a San Miguel street in daylight. Britt keeps asking the questions most listeners are probably already asking, which helps, because this excerpt is basically a stack of loose ends: a burned car, another vehicle police did not impound, and Greg drawing attention without enough evidence for charges. The car fire is hard to shrug off. Police search one of Cal's cars and find nothing. The other car burns later. Ashley and Britt treat that timing as suspicious, but they do not pretend suspicion does the work of evidence. They keep coming back to that gap, especially after Greg is arrested on unrelated charges and his sister tells the court she would not be surprised if he were involved. Then the house moves into the story. Detective Cole calls Greg's sister's place a party house, with people coming and going and rumors around substances, sex work, and trafficking. The show is careful about the line there: nothing official follows those claims. That makes the segment feel worse in a very specific way. The story keeps getting close to ugly possibilities, then stopping at a record that is thinner than anyone wants. Sergeant Larry Hobson does go to the house. Instead of a full search, the excerpt has him asking Megan what color her linens are, because blue towels matter. She says blue. Ashley and Britt let that sit there, clearly bothered by the missing next question: why not ask to see them? The tone stays grave but chatty. This is not a clean reveal episode. It is a listen about the awful space between leads and proof, where people, places, and objects keep attracting attention but no charge follows. The ads also stick out. The cold open and closing material bring in fan club promotion and another show plug, so the case has to be separated from the feed's packaging.
