He describes how Jesus led them to higher ground and apart by themselves, paralleling how God draws believers to deeper intimacy. The transfiguration reveals Jesus' divine nature shining through his human flesh. Tony connects this to 2 Corinthians 3:18, where Christians are transformed into Christ's image by the Spirit. Moses and Elijah then appear, talking with Jesus about his coming death. Tony explains they represent the law and prophets, both pointing to Christ. Peter suggests building three tabernacles, wanting to prolong the experience. Tony notes Peter spoke without thinking, overwhelmed by the glory. A cloud overshadows them, and God's voice says, 'This is my beloved Son, hear him.' Tony says this rebukes Peter for putting Moses and Elijah on Jesus' level and emphasizes listening to Christ. Afterward, the disciples see only Jesus. Tony explains this shows spiritual experiences should focus us on Christ. Jesus commands them not to tell anyone until after his resurrection. The disciples question what 'rising from the dead' means. They ask about Elijah coming first, as prophesied. Jesus explains Elijah will come before the second coming, but John the Baptist came in Elijah's spirit before the first coming. Tony concludes by contrasting present sufferings with future glory, referencing Romans 8:18 and 2 Corinthians 4:17.
