CDM 45 - 2 CORINTIOS 3;14 - OS SENTIDOS FORAM ENDURECIDOS

August 3, 2020·39 min·2 clips
If the Old Testament is fully abolished, the host argues, then 'You shall not kill' is also void—and you are free to murder.
The host opens with a troubling theory. Some people, he says, insist believers should live only by the New Testament, then narrow that even further until Jesus' earthly teaching gets treated as part of the Old Testament era. Pay attention, he says in effect. This is not a small reading mistake to him. It is strange, confusing, and dangerous. He walks through the logic out loud. If the Old Testament is abolished that crudely, then commands against killing, stealing, adultery, and false testimony can be brushed aside. Then he turns to Romans. Paul becomes the host's witness, because Romans 13 repeats those same commands and sums up the law in love for neighbor. Paul himself does it. That is the sting. If quoting Moses puts a veil over the reader, then Paul supposedly put on the same veil. The host presses that contradiction hard. The imagined objector then backs up and says some Old Testament commands still count. That is where the sermon sharpens. The host moves from commandments to grace, power, miracles, and the uncomfortable subject of giving the tenth part to God's work. He will not let the listener split the Bible by appetite. What people like from the Old Testament, they keep. What reaches into their pocket, they call obsolete. Judgment, mercy, and faith come back into view. The host says he has shown the word, while leaving room for a listener to stay stubborn. The close is pastoral but blunt: be careful with internet teachings and new claims that make Scripture smaller than Paul allowed.

As heard by us

A forceful Bible teaching against using Paul to discard Jesus, Moses, or the moral weight of the Old Testament.

Cafe da Manha takes up a church argument about whether Christians should treat the Old Testament as obsolete and live only by the New Testament, or even narrow that further to Paul's letters.
