Guard your heart

February 24, 2009·53 min·4 clips
A man in Disney World turns around to confront a woman he believes is breaking into his backpack to steal his wallet.
A backpack, some food, water, and a wallet. That is where the host starts, back in Disney World, trying to keep a family light enough to move fast through crowded ride lines. The story stays simple, and that is the point. Travel light, watch what you carry, and then ask the harder question: what are you letting into your heart? The phrase keeps coming back. Guard your heart. In Proverbs, he says, the heart is where desire, will, choice, and love start aiming a life. Wisdom is not just a nice thought to keep nearby. God's word brings life, reaches inward, and can help heal the whole body. Then the warning gets sharper. If anything and everything gets in, the heart starts loving plenty of things besides the things of God. That is the devil's game. The host keeps the question close to the room: where do you get your wisdom from, God or whatever is pulling at you today? Chapter four leads into chapter five, and he treats that movement as serious. Proverbs starts with the source of wisdom, then shows what can happen when the heart is left loose. The close becomes prayer. He names people who have let their guard down, asks the Father for power and spirit, and calls for forgiveness, healing, and life. The ending is direct. If the message lands, do something with it after the service.
