BoxTrick: Ep 108 - Retro Sports Games with Sportsnerdz

·1 hr 5 min·4 clips
Josh rejects players bouncing to four schools and flags the pay gap between quarterbacks and linemen.
Matt opens by welcoming Josh Petri, who goes by Sports Nerds online. They quickly clear up the pronunciation of Petri and joke about how often people say it differently. The conversation starts in familiar social-media territory. Matt says they have been commenting on each other’s videos for a little over a year. Josh talks about his Sports Nerds presence on TikTok, his website, and his podcast. Matt points out the interviews Josh has been doing with NFL figures and even Buff Bagwell. The episode then shifts to the giveaway that landed Matt a copy of College Football 26. Matt says he was not planning to buy it because he already had College Football 25. He says 26 has been a big improvement and that he has been having a blast with it. From there, Josh starts telling the story of where his sports fandom came from. He describes growing up in a small rural school with about 40 kids in his graduating class. He explains that when he got into football, the Browns did not exist, so he had to look elsewhere. His dad pointed him toward the Bengals or the Steelers, and the Steelers won out. Josh also ties his Ohio background to an easy loyalty for Ohio State. He jokes that being from Ohio means scarlet and gray is basically in the blood. After moving to Portland, he says his NBA interest stayed limited, though he still follows LeBron because of the Akron connection. He also keeps an eye on the Trail Blazers even if they are not especially strong. The talk broadens into Portland sports rumors, with Josh saying the city has secured land and finances for a potential MLB team. He also mentions hearing that the NBA is trying to push the Blazers out of Moda Center, though he does not think that move will actually happen. Matt then asks where people can find Josh, and Josh answers that searching Sports Nerds will turn him up online.

A loose sports and retro gaming hangout that works best when it follows the conversation.

BoxTrick leans into a retro gaming hangout to get to know Sportsnerdz, and the best part is how easily the conversation moves between sports fandom, content creation, and the small personal details that make him feel real.
