Cubs Pod: 3-27-26

March 27, 2026·31 min·3 clips
Opening day at Wrigley Field turned from a sunny morning to a sleeting, miserable game as the Cubs lost 10-4 to the Nationals.
Opening day turns ugly fast. The morning starts beautiful, with the host sweating on a bicycle, before first pitch shows up at 49 degrees and the weather falls apart into cold wind and sleet. The Cubs lose 10 to 4, which feels even worse because the Nationals still hit a few bombs while the Cubs do not hit any home runs. So the mood is already shot. The recap works back through the game, pulling baserunners, cutoff throws, and missed chances into the light again. Alex Bregman gets the sharpest heat. After Michael Bush scores, Bregman tries for third on the throw home and gets nailed with two outs already in the inning. The host cannot get past it. Nico Hoerner was coming up, Bregman was already in scoring position, and the promised baseball IQ does not show up on that play. Then Washington answers right away. Andres Chapado doubles, Brady House singles, Dalen Lyle singles, Weimer walks, and CJ Abrams turns the inning into another headache. The names do not exactly soften the blow. The host admits he has never heard of some of these Nationals, which makes their run scoring singles feel even more annoying. Abrams gives Chicago one small break. He tries to stretch a single into a double, does not quite bust it out of the box, and gets thrown out after review. Still, the damage is done. The Cubs lead for a minute, the Nationals punch back, and the recap keeps circling how quickly any good feeling disappeared. The closing gets softer, but still sideways. The host thanks listeners and Patreon supporters, jokes about buying Jorge Moreno beers with the money, and signs off with the only opening day optimism left: 161 more to go, and surely they will win eventually.
