Side Quest 151: Dry Hard

November 12, 2025·58 min·1 clip
The dryer is now a portal that needs feeding and it's connecting to another dimension
The show skips Drew and goes on a side quest. With one voice missing, it becomes a fan-facing Q&A where audience questions get priority and the hosts use the setup to talk directly to the people in the room while keeping the conversation moving. The looseness helps. A simple question about crying opens a long stretch of stories about what actually breaks people, from sudden shifts in music to movie endings that still land hard years later. Nobody is trying to act above it. The conversation keeps comparing different kinds of tears, with one person talking about solitary, dignified crying while another treats the whole thing like a contest in emotional cowardice. It gets sillier. The panel turns those confessions into running jokes about Oscar tears, sad-clown glamour, and the strange masculinity of insisting you only cry in the most theatrical way possible. Then it swerves. A Halloween memory about performing a fake head smash with a mallet goes wrong when a hand ends up in the path of the blow, and the accidental thumb injury becomes the sort of bodily disaster the show cannot resist. The blood is real. The group treats the injury as both a warning and a punchline, which is very much the show's method when ordinary life hands over a perfectly stupid bit of pain. Hair metal shows up too. Someone mentions seeing an advert for a modern video game that uses Loverboy's "Working for the Weekend," and that tiny detail is enough to send the room into nostalgic noise about riffs, memory, and the persistence of embarrassing soundtrack choices. The pace never really settles. Between the fan questions, the side stories, and the self-heckling, the episode keeps folding sincere reactions into deranged little tags until no one can remember where the original topic started. That is familiar territory. The closing stretch blurs into ad copy, plugs, and a final wave goodbye that is half performance, half surrender to the chaos already in motion. It ends badly on purpose. What survives is a very Authors & Dragons kind of hangout: profane, affectionate, and happy to let one good question detour into a whole mess of jokes.

Side Quest 151 becomes a loose listener Q&A after Drew cannot make it, and the missing cohost gives the others more room to just talk. The episode works best when it lets small prompts drift into personal reactions and running jokes about crying, movie endings, and one very…
