Episode 493 "No Offence"

·55 min·3 clips
Brett Gallant has 7 points and 28 penalty minutes in 6 playoff games for Fredericton.
Darren opens Episode 493 by welcoming listeners back after a couple weeks away. He says the trip to Las Vegas was fun, expensive, and a little rough around the edges, then jokes about needing overtime to help cover it and being glad he missed two huge snow dumps back home. The mood is worn out. He keeps circling that loose reset energy, the kind that comes from trying to get back into a Sunday-night recording groove after travel, work, and too many beers. Politics is not welcome. Darren says flatly that he is not interested in political debate in a casino, on the show, or anywhere else, and he pushes back just as hard on religion talk because he still prefers the older rule that both topics are best left alone. He backs that up with a casino story. One guy tried to pull him into a political chat at the Orleans in Las Vegas, and Darren shut it down so fast the conversation basically disappeared. Hygiene becomes a target next. He says the number of men who leave a bathroom without washing their hands in Las Vegas still disgusts him, and he treats it like one of those yearly facts of life that never stops being gross. Then he turns to burgers. At restaurants in Vegas, he kept getting asked how he wanted his burger cooked, which strikes him as odd enough to mention because that is not how it usually goes where he is from. The episode stays loose and observant. Darren lets the irritations pile up one after another, from casino behavior to restaurant manners, and the whole thing works because he sounds like he is thinking out loud instead of building a polished segment. Near the end, he brings up Daniel Amesbury. He says he enjoyed the interview, liked doing a part two for Fourth Line Voice after also recording it for Bruised and Battered, and leaves the impression that he still values a good guest when one fits the show. He closes the way he opened, casually. There is thanks for listening, a reminder that the Friday livestream might be next, and a promise to be back the following Saturday. The goodbye is classic Darren. He signs off with a final jab at people who do not like fighting, which keeps the whole thing rooted in the blunt, old-school lane that makes the show what it is.

As heard by us

A loose Vegas return built from travel gripes, casino etiquette, and no politics banter.

Episode 493 comes in sounding tired, loose, and very candid. Darren is back from Nevada after a couple of weeks away, and he walks through the Las Vegas trip with a mix of small wins, a rough gambling stretch, and the kind of rain complaint that only makes sense in the desert.
